Armed with a few cameras, and a Bachelors degree in photojournalism, American photojournalist, Michael Fernandez has always strived to tell an accurate visual story. Experience ranges from: covering the war in Croatia, covering elections in different countries, covering the Republican National Convention, covering two professional hockey Calder Cup championships, many college football regular season and bowl games, professional football, and thousands of other sporting, and news events, most under intense deadlines.
He has photographed every American president since Ronald Reagan, and has ridden in a presidential motorcade with President George W. Bush while on assignment.
Michael has won many state, regional, and national photojournalism awards, and his work has sold in galleries, including Christie’s, for charitable organizations. Michael has published several calendars, as well as his own book, PRECIOUS CARGO – Portraits and stories of truck drivers and their pets, and has earned the cover photograph, and many inside photos for the book, THE HERSHEY BEAR’S – Sweet Seasons, describing the history of this professional minor league hockey team.
He also has a good amount of underwater photography experience all over the world, including photographing North Atlantic wrecks more than 100 ft. deep using SCUBA equipment. Michael has also had two photo essay’s published in Surfer Magazine Online, adding to the diversity of his experience.
Michael is an avid surfer, sailor, and SCUBA diver, and was the National Kneeboard Champion in 1981. He was also a Captain in the U.S. Army, and an Airborne Ranger.
Having travelled to, or lived in 30 countries, Michael is well prepared, and available for international assignments using stills, video, and multimedia as his tools.
